At least once a week I get a call from a prospective client that says “I was giving this guy $500 a month because he said he could get me to the top of page one on Google in three months, and I need good SEO.” There are so many things wrong with this statement that I don’t even know where to begin.
First off, there is no such thing as paying a fee and magically ranking number one on Google. It doesn’t happen like that. Google uses a complicated algorithm to weight many factors that dictate your search ranking. Factors can range from how relevant your content is, if your site is mobile responsive, to utilizing video on your site and having a secure socket layer. Second, NEVER, and I mean NEVER give your money to anyone that promises you a specific ranking on Google in a specific period of time. If it were that simple, we would all do it!
Unfortunately there are webmasters and marketing companies out there that will be all too happy to take your money and make false promises about your search rankings. This has always been highly frowned upon by Google, but will now be penalized harsher than ever. Google announced this week that they will be permanently removing any repeat offenders from their search engine. What does this mean for you? It means that you need to use reputable web shops and content writers! Taking the cheap and easy route with a company or developer that promises you specific search ranking results for a minimal investment is the quickest route to being kicked off of Google indefinitely. Much like everything else in life; quality, persistence, consistency, and investment are the only way to the top.
